Santiago Bueno Transfer: Wolverhampton Wanderers Defender Set for West Ham United Move

Football Transfer News

Santiago Bueno is at the centre of growing transfer speculation involving Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United, with the Uruguayan centre-back reportedly emerging as a target for the Hammers. Reports earlier in the summer indicated that West Ham were among several Premier League clubs monitoring the defender after Wolves’ relegation.

Bueno, 27, has established himself as an increasingly important defender since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Girona in August 2023. His progress became particularly noticeable during the 2025–26 campaign, when he featured regularly for Wolves and was regarded as one of the more consistent performers in a difficult season. Reports stated that he made 24 Premier League starts during the campaign.

The potential move to West Ham would represent another opportunity for Bueno to remain at a high level in English football. His preference has reportedly been to continue playing in the Premier League rather than dropping into the Championship with Wolves. That desire has attracted attention from several clubs, including West Ham, Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Brentford.

West Ham’s interest is understandable given the club’s need to strengthen its defensive options. Bueno offers experience of Premier League football, physical strength and the ability to operate as a traditional central defender. His familiarity with the demands of English football could also make him an attractive option compared with a player arriving from abroad.

There is also an important financial element to the situation. Wolves are dealing with the consequences of relegation and could be willing to sell some players in order to reshape the squad and manage their finances. Reports in August suggested that Wolves were looking for at least around £10 million for Bueno, although the exact valuation and negotiations remain subject to change.

Bueno originally joined Wolves from Girona for a reported £8.5 million, signing a five-year contract. Since arriving in England, he has gradually adapted to the Premier League and increased his importance within the Wolves squad.

For West Ham, signing Bueno could provide valuable depth and competition in central defence. The Uruguayan’s experience could be particularly useful in a physically demanding Championship campaign if the reported current league situation is taken into account. However, the transfer picture has changed considerably, and reports now indicate that West Ham and Wolves are both facing Championship football for the 2026–27 season, which could complicate the original Premier League-based transfer scenario.

There is also competition for Bueno’s signature. Recent reports have linked the defender with Ajax, showing that his future is not limited to a move within England. Bueno remains keen on his next step, with his preference reportedly centred on playing at the highest possible level.

At this stage, the West Ham transfer should therefore be viewed as a developing story rather than a confirmed completed transfer. Earlier reports established West Ham’s interest, but there has been no reliable confirmation that Bueno has officially signed for the Hammers.

If an agreement is eventually reached, the move could be an important one for both clubs. West Ham would acquire a proven central defender entering his prime years, while Bueno would gain a fresh opportunity to establish himself as a leading defender at his next club.

The coming weeks should provide greater clarity over his future as the transfer window approaches its final stages. With Wolves reportedly valuing him at around £10 million and multiple clubs monitoring his situation, Santiago Bueno is likely to remain one of the more interesting defenders on the transfer market.

For now, the story remains one to watch: Santiago Bueno is strongly linked with a move away from Wolverhampton Wanderers, while West Ham United have previously shown interest in securing his services. Any claim that the transfer is already officially completed should be treated with caution until the clubs announce a deal.
