Marko Grujić Transfer to Levski Sofia: Serbian Midfielder Set for New Chapter in Bulgaria

Football Transfer News 📰

Marko Grujić is set to become the latest major addition to Levski Sofia, with the experienced Serbian midfielder reportedly joining the Bulgarian giants as a free agent. The move represents a significant statement of intent from Levski as the club looks to strengthen its squad and compete at a higher level in domestic and European football.

Grujić, 30, was born in Belgrade and developed through the famous Red Star Belgrade academy before establishing himself as one of Serbia’s promising midfielders. His performances eventually earned him a move to Liverpool in 2016, beginning a career that would take him across several major European leagues. He later played for Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin before making a permanent move to Porto.

After his time in Portugal, Grujić joined Greek club AEK Athens. Reports indicate that his contract with AEK expired, leaving him available as a free agent. Levski have now moved quickly to secure his services, with several reports stating that an agreement has been reached.

The transfer is particularly interesting because of Grujić’s experience at the highest level. He has played in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Portuguese football and European competitions, while also representing the Serbian national team. His international career has brought him around 30 senior appearances, giving Levski a midfielder with considerable experience and maturity.

Grujić’s arrival could provide Levski with greater strength in the centre of the pitch. Standing around 1.91 metres tall, he offers physical presence, defensive ability and experience in possession. His versatility means he can operate as a defensive midfielder or in a deeper central role, potentially giving the coaching staff another tactical option.

There is also an intriguing storyline surrounding the transfer. Grujić’s previous club, AEK Athens, could be involved in European competition against Levski, meaning the Serbian could potentially face his former teammates soon after leaving Greece. Reports have described the timing as particularly unusual, with Levski preparing for an important European tie involving AEK.

Levski have not only been attracted by Grujić’s footballing ability but also by the leadership and experience he can bring to a developing squad. His career includes major clubs such as Liverpool and Porto, giving younger Levski players an opportunity to learn from someone who has competed at the highest levels of European football.

Recent transfer databases now list Grujić as a Levski Sofia player, with the move recorded as a free transfer.

For Levski supporters, the signing could become one of the club’s most eye-catching moves of the summer. Grujić arrives with a strong reputation, extensive European experience and something to prove after a less prominent spell in Athens.

If the transfer is confirmed officially by the club, Levski will have secured a player capable of adding quality, physicality and experience to their midfield. For Grujić, meanwhile, a move to Sofia represents a fresh opportunity to play an important role and revive his career in a new environment.

The Serbian’s arrival could therefore prove to be more than just another free transfer. It could be a major piece of Levski’s plans for the new season and a clear signal that the Bulgarian club intends to challenge strongly on both the domestic and European stages.
