Police Searching for Witnesses as Argentine Skier Dies After Being Found Unconscious on the Slopes in Zermatt, Switzerland
An Argentine skier died just now Saturday, February 08, after being found unconscious on a marked ski run in Zermatt, Switzerland, the cantonal police of the cantonal police of Wallis/Valais reports. Around 3 p.m., third parties discovered the 25-year-old man lying unresponsive on Piste 9, a groomed slope between Blauherd and Tuftern in the resort’s extensive ski area. They immediately alerted rescue teams, according to a statement from the cantonal police.
Ski patrol, emergency responders from the Valais rescue organization, and an Air Zermatt helicopter rushed to the scene. The skier was transported to a hospital in Sion, where he died later that afternoon. The cause of the incident remains unclear, and prosecutors have launched an investigation.
