Bruce Springsteen’s wife and fellow E Street band member Patti Scialfa has disclosed that she received a multiple myeloma diagnosis in 2018. Multiple
myeloma is a type of blood cancer. In the recently released documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,” which made its
Toronto Film Festival debut on Sunday night, Scialfa talked about her diagnosis. She revealed in the film, which takes a reflective look at the rock icon and his
close-knit group of musicians, that her sickness has made it challenging for her to perform. She has so decided to scale back her touring. She noted in the
movie, “I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go because this affects my immune system.” Occasionally, I find myself coming to
I can sing a couple songs on stage at a gig or two, and that has been a pleasure. Right now, it’s my new normal, and I’m good with that. Scialfa wasn’t present
for the premiere on Sunday. The 71-year-old wed Springsteen in 1991 after joining the E Street Band in 1984. As a member of the E Street Band, Scialfa was
inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. She claims in “Road Diary” that taking her husband on stage allows the audience to experience “a side of our relationship that you usually don’t get to see.”
