*Early Years (1973-1984)*
The Vancouver Whitecaps FC were founded in 1973 by Denny Veitch and Herb Capozzi. Named after the whitecaps on the ocean and mountains, the team joined the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1974.

The Whitecaps won their first NASL championship in 1979, defeating the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1. This victory sparked a championship parade that drew 100,000 people to Vancouver’s Robson Street.
