warm up before Nederland’s home game. (The News/Keagan Smith) Netherlands — Dr. Stuart Kieschnick believes that the next football coach and athletic director at Nederland High School must be
ready to succeed both on and off the football field. The hunt for a new superintendent began two weeks ago after longtime district employee Monte Barrow resigned on January 8. The superintendent of the
Nederland Independent School District provided an update to Port Arthur Newsmedia regarding this process. Nederland Bulldog football and athletics have a long history of accomplishment, involvement, and support from their devoted fan base, according to Kieschnick.
The Nederland Football team’s Black vs. Gold scrimmage inside Bulldog Stadium marked the conclusion of its spring workouts. Scott Rich, the Bulldogs’ first-year head coach, told KFDM Sports
that the spring workouts were a strong beginning in developing what he believes would be a disciplined and diligent Bulldog squad come autumn.
The Bulldogs were led by Scott Rich, who has spent the last eight years coaching the quarterbacks at Katy High School. He takes over for former coach Monte Barrow, who left his position in December
following Nederland’s 4-7 overall record in 2023. Superintendent Dr. Stuart Kieschnick said that while great candidates from local and statewide schools applied to Nederland throughout the search’s month-long duration, Rich stood out from the others.
