Coach Reportedly Considering €3.8 Million Sale of Devis Epassy — But Why?

Transfer News | August 2026

Questions are being raised over a reported plan involving Cameroon international goalkeeper Devis Epassy, with claims that his coach could be prepared to sanction a transfer for a fee of around €3.8 million. However, there is currently no reliable public report confirming that such an offer or asking price has been formally established.

Epassy, 33, is currently a goalkeeper for Dinamo București, having joined the Romanian club in July 2025 after leaving Cypriot side Karmiotissa. His contract with Dinamo is listed as running until June 2027.

The reported €3.8 million figure has therefore attracted attention because it appears significantly higher than the goalkeeper’s publicly listed current market valuation. Transfermarkt currently lists Epassy’s market value at approximately €400,000, while FootballTransfers places his estimated transfer value in the region of €100,000–€200,000.

Why would the coach want to sell Epassy?

There could be several footballing and financial reasons behind such a decision if the reported plan eventually proves accurate.

First, the coaching staff may believe that the goalkeeper’s position needs to be refreshed. At 33, Epassy brings considerable experience, including international experience with Cameroon and appearances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. His experience can be valuable, but a club may also decide to invest in a younger goalkeeper with greater long-term potential.

Second, a substantial transfer fee could give the club important funds to strengthen other areas of the squad. If another club were genuinely willing to pay close to €3.8 million for Epassy, Dinamo could potentially use that money to recruit several players or invest in younger talent.

Another possible explanation could be competition for the goalkeeper’s position. Coaches regularly make difficult squad decisions based on performances, tactical preferences, age profile and future planning. A decision to sell a goalkeeper does not necessarily mean the player has performed badly.

Epassy’s experience remains valuable

Despite the speculation, Epassy’s career record demonstrates why clubs may still be interested in him. Before joining Dinamo, he played in Greece, Saudi Arabia and Cyprus and represented Cameroon at international level. He also became widely known after starting for Cameroon during the 2022 World Cup.

When Dinamo signed him in 2025, reports described the move as a two-year agreement, with potential bonuses connected to his international involvement and the 2026 World Cup.

The €3.8 million question

The biggest question surrounding the story is simple: where did the €3.8 million valuation come from?

At present, available public sources do not substantiate a €3.8 million asking price for Epassy. His reported market values are considerably lower, and his move to Dinamo in 2025 was reported as an undisclosed transfer rather than a €3.8 million deal.

That means the figure should be treated as unconfirmed speculation rather than an established transfer fee.

If a club eventually comes forward with a €3.8 million offer, it would represent a major development and could force Dinamo’s management to consider whether selling an experienced goalkeeper makes financial and sporting sense.

For now, Epassy remains a Dinamo player, and his reported contract runs through June 2027. Until the club, coach or a reliable transfer source confirms the reported plan, the €3.8 million sale story should be regarded cautiously.

The key question remains: is the coach really ready to sell Devis Epassy, or is the €3.8 million figure simply transfer-market speculation?
