According to the Greenfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene near the intersection of U.S. 40 and County Road 200 East shortly after 2 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders found two heavily damaged vehicles and several motorists who had stopped to help. Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures on one of the drivers, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that one vehicle may have crossed the center line before colliding head-on with an oncoming car. The driver of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
