$12.1M secured to replace closed Lyons canal bridge.

The long-closed Leach Road Bridge in Lyons is set for a major revival thanks to $12.1 million in approved funding, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The 100-year-old bridge was shut down in 2023 due to severe structural issues, with no prior state plans to repair it.
Wayne County and the town of Lyons explored alternatives and landed on full replacement as the preferred solution, though rehabilitation remains an option. The Genesee Transportation Council approved the funds, with a 5% local match required.
The bridge once connected Route 31 to downtown Lyons, and local leaders say restoring it is essential to the community’s infrastructure and accessibility.
