Indianapolis man killed in Greenfield crash

The crash happened around 10 a.m. Monday in the 700 block of West Green Meadows Drive, near North Broadway Street and West McKenzie Road.
GREENFIELD, Ind. — The Greenfield Police Department confirmed an Indianapolis man died and a woman is hospitalized after a crash involving a box truck Monday morning.
Around 10 a.m. June 17, police officers and firefighters responded to a crash in a Community Health Network office building in the 700 block of West Green Meadows Drive, near North Broadway Street and West McKenzie Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, officers said an employee of a box truck company was outside of the box truck to use the document shredding mechanism on the truck. While this was happening, the truck lunged forward, hit a parked vehicle, two pedestrians and another parked vehicle before coming to a stop.
The male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and the female pedestrian was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment, where she is expected to survive.
Police said the box truck company employee is fully cooperating with investigators and has submitted to a blood test, which is standard procedure for an accident resulting in serious injury or death.
“Our prayers are with the families of everyone involved in this tragic accident and all who ran to help,” the Greenfield Police Department said in a statement.
Police said during the investigation, Broadway Street was closed between McKenzie Road and McClarnon Drive, and Green Meadows Drive was closed at Fields Boulevard.
The Greenfield Fire Territory, Fountaintown Volunteer Fire Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock County Coroner’s Office, Community Health Network Police Department, Davis Towing and Recovery, and Johnson’s Towing also assisted in the investigation.
Police said employees from the Community Health Network office came out to try to help the man and woman before medics arrived at the scene.
