Tragic Pedestrian Fatality on Santa Monica Freeway in Mid-City Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA – A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning as a pedestrian was struck and killed on the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles County.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the La Brea Avenue exit. Witnesses reported seeing a person walking along the westbound lanes before being struck by at least one vehicle. First responders arrived quickly on the scene, but sadly, the victim was pronounced dead at the site.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. It remains unclear why the pedestrian was on the freeway at that hour, and investigators are working to determine whether the individual was trying to cross the freeway or was experiencing car trouble that may have led them to exit a vehicle.
The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperating with the investigation. At this time, no charges have been filed, and impairment does not appear to be a factor, according to initial reports from CHP.
The incident led to significant traffic delays in the westbound lanes of I-10, with several lanes closed for hours as investigators processed the scene. The lanes were fully reopened shortly after 6:00 a.m.
This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers pedestrians face when attempting to navigate busy freeways. Authorities urge motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution and to avoid walking along or across highways.
