Driver in Deadly Waterboro Crash Identified as Subcontractor — New Details Emerge.
WATERBORO — Authorities have confirmed that the driver involved in a fatal crash earlier this week in Waterboro was working as a subcontractor at the time of the incident. The collision, which occurred Tuesday morning on Route 202, claimed the life of a 47-year-old local man and has sparked questions about employer oversight and safety protocols.
York County Sheriff’s deputies say the driver, a 39-year-old from Biddeford, was operating a company-owned vehicle when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, the driver was subcontracted by a regional construction firm and was en route to a job site. While no charges have been filed yet, the case remains under active investigation. Authorities are reviewing factors including road conditions, speed, and whether the driver had exceeded allowable work hours.
“This is a tragic situation, and we’re working to understand all contributing factors,” said Sheriff William King. “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.”
The construction company has not released a statement but confirmed the driver was not a direct employee. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.
