“60 at 60″: A Journey of a Lifetime on the Camino de Santiago

They were born in 1965. This year, they turned 60 — and marked the milestone in the most profound way imaginable: walking the Camino de Santiago. As of today, these two remarkable women have walked 60.065 kilometers, each step echoing six decades of friendship, laughter, resilience, and shared dreams.

To say it’s just a pilgrimage would be to miss the soul of the story. This journey is a celebration of life — of everything they’ve weathered, conquered, and embraced. The Camino, known for its physical demands and spiritual gifts, became a canvas for reflection and renewal. With every step, the rhythm of their feet beat in time with memories and hope. The number on the odometer — 60.065 — is more than coincidence; it’s a symbol of divine timing, of a life beautifully lived and still unfolding.

“This path is a gift,” one of them shared, her voice thick with emotion. “To be alive, healthy, and able to do this — it’s everything.” Together, they’ve walked through villages and vineyards, over sun-splashed hills and misty valleys, collecting more than just kilometers — collecting peace, perspective, and deep gratitude.

There were blisters. Sore muscles. Days when the pack felt too heavy and the way too long. But there was also laughter echoing through sleepy towns, quiet prayers whispered in candlelit chapels, and joy in the smallest things — a shared orange, a stranger’s kindness, a sunset that made them pause and breathe in the moment.

They are not just pilgrims; they are symbols of what it means to age with grace, with purpose, and with unshakable spirit. Sixty years young, sixty kilometers strong, and countless moments richer, they walk not just toward Santiago but toward the best version of themselves.

As they near the end of their pilgrimage, there’s no doubt: this adventure has marked them in more ways than one. “Buen Camiño,” they say to fellow travelers, but the truest blessing may be this — to walk with your heart full, your soul awake, and your best friend by your side.

Here’s to the next 60 kilometers — and whatever magic lies ahead.
