Driver dies after ejected from truck in Wayne County crash.
A person died early Thursday morning after they crashed and were thrown from their truck on Interstate 70 eastbound in Wayne County.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office did not identify the man in a release sent Thursday.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a crash at the 134-mile marker on I-70 EB just before 4:30 a.m. That’s just north of Cambridge City, Mt. Auburn, and Dublin, 20 minutes from Richmond.
During their investigation, officers learned the driver in their 1996 Dodge Ram veered off the road for an unknown reason, driving into a ditch. They continued through the ditch until they struck a ridge, causing it to overturn multiple times.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and was thrown from the truck before it came to rest.
Deputies found the driver lying partially in the roadway. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The right lane of I-70 EB was closed for several hours while crews were on the scene. It was expected to reopen around 9 a.m.
