Richmond woman reportedly struck and killed by train Sunday.
A 73-year-old woman has died after being struck by a train Sunday afternoon.
Carolyn Sue Rose, according to preliminary findings, walked directly into the path of the eastbound train for unknown reasons sometime before 12:41 p.m., the time officers and the Richmond Fire Department responded to the report.
The train was traveling on the Norfolk and Southern Railway near North 12th and E streets, according to a news release, and there are no indications of foul play. The investigation is still ongoing by the Investigative Services Division of the Richmond Police Department.
Rose was immediately transported to Reid Health, where she died shortly after as a result of her injuries.
“Our hearts are broken over this devastating loss,” Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly said in the release. “Ms. Rose was a member of our community, and this tragedy is felt deeply by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”
