JUST IN: Crash on Interstate 70 in Wayne County leaves 1 dead.
A man was killed in a crash on Interstate 70 in Wayne County Saturday night.
According to a press release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to mile marker 149 of I-70 eastbound around 8:53 p.m. to investigate a single-vehicle crash. When police arrived at the scene, they found a 2007 Toyota Corolla wedged against a cable barrier system located in the interstate median.
When deputies approached the vehicle, they saw a deceased driver inside it. WCSO identified the driver as 28-year-old Cedric Wolter of Greens Fork, Indiana.
Police diverted traffic to Centerville Road — which is located near I-70’s 145 mile marker — while the interstate was blocked. The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for approximately three hours to allow officials to clean up and investigate the crash.
“The family and loved ones of Cedric Wolter are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter wrote in a prepared statement. “We extend our deepest condolences to those affected by this tragic loss.”
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received assistance at the scene from the Richmond Police Department Drone Team, Richmond Fire Department, Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana State Police and Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
