Cocaine-dealing, neglect charges filed against Richmond couple.
Gomez and Wood are also charged with dealing in marijuana, a Level 6 felony with a maximum 30-month sentence, and neglect of a dependent, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.
Deputies said they received the warrant to search the home, in the 600 block of South E Street, on Jan. 21 after a “lengthy investigation into the distribution of cocaine involving this residence.”
Gomez told the deputies they wouldn’t find any cocaine in his home because he “doesn’t tolerate that.”
However, investigators reported finding about 18 grams of cocaine, including 1.8 grams of the drug in a plastic bag found in Gomez’s possession.
Also seized were plastic bags containing a total of 96 grams of marijuana.
According to an affidavit, Wood told deputies she saw Gomez sell cocaine once or twice a day, but she insisted she did not talk to him about such activities.
A loaded 9mm handgun was found on a coffee table in a living room.
The neglect charges alleged that the couple placed a child “in a situation that endangered the dependent’s life or health.”
On Friday, Gomez and Wood each received an April 22 trial date.
Wood was being held in the Wayne County Jail on Friday under a $25,000 bond. Court records reflect no prior charges against her.
Gomez was convicted of dealing in cocaine or a narcotic drug in 2009.
