Wayne County Traffic Stop Leads to Major Cocaine Bust – Richmond Man Charged with Drug Dealing.

A routine traffic stop in Wayne County led to a major drug seizure this week, resulting in the arrest of a Richmond man now facing serious felony charges.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initiated the stop after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation along a rural stretch of highway. During the encounter, officers noted suspicious behavior from the driver, prompting further investigation. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a significant quantity of cocaine concealed inside.
Authorities reported that the amount recovered indicates intent to distribute rather than personal use. While officials have not publicly disclosed the exact weight of the drugs seized, they described the bust as a “major interception” that prevented a substantial quantity of narcotics from reaching local communities.
The driver, identified as a Richmond resident, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He has been charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver cocaine, trafficking in cocaine, and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of distributing controlled substances. He is currently being held at the county detention center under a secured bond pending his first court appearance.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized that proactive patrol efforts and routine traffic enforcement remain key tools in combating drug trafficking in the region. They also noted that interstate corridors running through eastern North Carolina are frequently used as pipelines for narcotics distribution.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could be filed as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case. Law enforcement officials encourage anyone with information related to drug activity to contact the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
