A former councilman in Greenfield has been arrested on multiple child pornography and child exploitation-related charges.

A former councilman in Greenfield has been arrested on multiple charges related to alleged child pornography possession and child exploitation, according to local law enforcement officials.
Authorities announced the arrest following what they described as a months-long investigation involving digital evidence and coordination with state and federal agencies. The investigation reportedly began after a cyber tip from a national watchdog organization flagged suspicious online activity linked to an account allegedly associated with the former elected official.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence earlier this week, seizing computers, mobile devices, and external storage equipment. Following a forensic review of the materials, detectives determined there was sufficient evidence to file multiple felony charges, including possession of child sexual abuse material and exploitation of a minor.
The former councilman, who served on the Greenfield City Council for several years before leaving office, was taken into custody without incident. He appeared in court for an initial hearing, where a judge outlined the charges and set bond conditions.
Court records indicate that additional hearings are scheduled in the coming weeks.
In a brief statement, city officials emphasized that the alleged actions are not connected to current city operations. “The individual is no longer serving in any official capacity with the city,” the statement read. “We take these matters extremely seriously and support a full and thorough investigation.”
Law enforcement officials urged members of the public to report any information that could assist in the case. They also reminded the community that the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
If convicted, the former councilman could face significant prison time, mandatory registration as a sex offender, and other penalties under state law. The investigation remains ongoing.
