Fatal Vehicle Accident on I-70 in Wayne County Claims Richmond Woman’s Life, Injures Passenger

A fatal accident on Interstate 70 in Wayne County claimed the life of a woman yesterday morning, leaving a male passenger injured.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported to the crash site near the 137-mile marker around 1:03 a.m., according to FOX59. Upon arrival, they discovered an overturned small passenger vehicle that had left the roadway, struck an embankment, and came to rest on its roof on the interstate’s south side.
The driver, identified as 55-year-old Connie Jones from Richmond, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, having been ejected during the vehicular tumult.
A passenger, meanwhile, reported sustaining injuries that were non-life-threatening and is expected to recover fully.
Traveling home after a work shift, the vehicle they were in veered right unexpectedly, causing the crash, as stated in information obtained by WISH-TV.
Investigations into the cause of the accident by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office are ongoing.
The identities of the driver and the passenger were later confirmed, with the driver being Connie Jones and the injured passenger being Leovigildo Muniz, from Richmond.
Muniz relayed to investigators that Jones had gone to Indiana to pick him up after his work ended, leading up to the regrettable moment that veered their journey into permanent alteration.
The aftermath of the crash led to the closure of I-70 eastbound for about three hours as first responders diligently cleared the scene and investigated. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office expressed its commiserations, posting on social media, “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Ms. Jones’ family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” as recounted by WTHR. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unforeseen perils that lurk on the roads we traverse daily.
