Richmond Indiana man accused of reckless homicide in dad’s beating.

RICHMOND, Ind. — A call from his step-mother drew Mitchel Lee Legg to his father’s home before 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to a court document.
Legg and his father, Jimmy Legg, 54, eventually fought, with Jimmy Legg sustaining fatal injuries to his head, according to an affidavit of probable cause for three felony charges filed Wednesday against Mitchel Legg.
He put up $2,500 on a $25,000 bond Wednesday afternoon and was released from the Wayne County Jail hours after he was charged with aggravated battery (a Level 3 felony), involuntary manslaughter (a Level 5 felony) and reckless homicide (a Level 5 felony) in his father’s death.
A preliminary autopsy report from the Wayne County Coroner’s Office ruled Jimmy Legg’s death a homicide, according to a Richmond Police Department press release from Capt. Kevin Wampler.
That determination led to the involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide charges being added to the original aggravated battery charge on which Mitchel Legg was arrested Tuesday.
According to the affidavit, Mitchel Legg, 32, of the 300 block of South West 17th Street told RPD Officer Brandon Cappa he received a call from Carla Maurer telling him Jimmy Legg was “at it again.” The affidavit does not describe what Jimmy Legg was doing to cause the call.
Mitchel Legg said he went to his father’s home in the 400 block of South West 17th Street and argued with his father, the affidavit said. Mitchel Legg said he then left and began walking home when Jimmy Legg came out of the house after him, and the two engaged in a physical confrontation. Mitchel Legg told Cappa Jimmy Legg threatened him and his family.
