Minutes Ago: Richmond explosion, fire: 2 airlifted to Indianapolis hospital

RICHMOND, Ind. (WDTN) — An explosion and house fire in a Richmond, Indiana neighborhood are under investigation.
According to Wayne County dispatchers, officials were sent at 8:47 a.m. to the 100 block of Randolph Street for a reported explosion and fire.
When first responders arrived, two people were found at the front of a residence with suspected burn injuries. Officials provided aid to the two at the scene, but they were sent to Reid Health and then sent by medical helicopter to Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis for treatment.
Richmond police confirmed the two airlifted were in life-threatening condition.
Two juveniles at the scene were observed by first responders for potential smoke inhalation.
A person at the scene who is considered a “Good Samaritan” was treated and released at the scene. Police said this person assisted before first responders were able to arrive.
“This was a dangerous and fast-moving situation, and I’m incredibly proud of the swift, courageous actions of our officers, firefighters, and medics,” said Adam Blanton, assistant chief of Richmond Police Department.
The Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation.
