Juvenile injured in shooting under Richmond bridge; juvenile suspect detained
RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) — A juvenile was injured and another juvenile was detained Sunday evening after a shooting under a bridge in Richmond, Indiana.
At 4:17 p.m. Sunday. Wayne County Emergency Communications received a 911 call reporting a shooting under a bridge at North 17th Street and Maple Drive in Richmond. The person shot was reported to be a juvenile.
Officers with the Richmond Police Department (RPD) and Richmond Fire Department personnel responded to the scene. After arriving to the scene, officers entered the moving water to reach the juvenile and begin life-saving efforts. Officers, medics, and firefighters carried the juvenile across the water and up to the bridge, where they were transferred to an ambulance and taken to Reid Health.
The juvenile was stabilized and later transferred to another medical facility for advanced care.
RPD detectives responded to the scene, and began processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. A juvenile suspect was identified and detained at a separate location without incident. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wayne County Juvenile Probation Office were consulted, and the juvenile suspect was transported to a juvenile detention center.
Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
