Lainey Wilson Just Gave Us the Beatles Cover We “Absolutely Needed”
Lainey Wilson may have made country cool again with her breakout 2022 album Bell Bottom Country, but the ACM’s reigning Entertainer of the Year also borrows from Southern rock and blues. The Louisiana native has expressed a fondness for classic rock, even covering the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” in 2023. Recently, Wilson, 33, went out on a limb and tackled one of the Beatles’ biggest hits. And judging from the social media reaction, many fans are shocked by just how much they like it.
Lainey Wilson looks every bit the country music sensation in a video shared by Apple Music on Tuesday (June 24.) Sporting a fringed vest and cowboy hat, the Grammy-winning artist put her own spin on the Beatles’ 1969 hit “Come Together.”
Wilson showcases all the unique flavors of her country music brand as she sings the Abbey Road opener. Her voice cracks in all the right places, giving it the perfect touch of countryfied soul. He roller-coaster, he got early warnin’ / He got muddy water, he one mojo filter. He say, “One and one and one is three” / Got to be good-lookin’ ’cause he’s so hard to see.
“Didn’t know we absolutely needed this version,” commented the official Wranglers Instagram account.
“Never heard a cover of this song that I liked,” another user remarked. “Until now.”
What Do Lainey and the Beatles Have in Common?
This past April, Lainey Wilson released a new song, “Bell Bottoms Up.” Written for her Nashville bar and restaurant of the same name, the “Watermelon Moonshine” singer recalled working on it at The Beatles’ beloved Abbey Road.
“The stars aligned because it was crunch time, and we’re like, man, we gotta figure out how to get into a studio and get this song done,” Wilson said. “And it just so happened that we were playing a few shows here in London, and we said, well, let’s try to do it at Abbey Road.”
“I knew as soon as we walked in the building that I was going to get that feeling. And especially being here with my band, it’s just really, really special,” she said. “So, I think everybody was feeling it this morning when we got to just walk around and see everywhere. The magic was made.”
