East Meadow Horror: Husband Charged in Shocking Stabbing of Wife
East Meadow, NY — A quiet Long Island neighborhood was rocked over the weekend after a man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife in what authorities are calling a violent domestic dispute.
According to Nassau County police, 47-year-old Richard Morales of East Meadow was taken into custody late Saturday night after officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting screams coming from a residence on Prospect Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene around 10:45 p.m., they found a 43-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center, where she remains in critical but stable condition, according to hospital officials.
Investigators say the attack stemmed from a heated argument that turned violent inside the couple’s home. A bloody kitchen knife was recovered at the scene. Police believe the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Morales was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned Sunday morning at First District Court in Hempstead and is being held without bail.
Neighbors expressed shock at the violence. “They seemed like a normal couple,” said Maria Santos, who lives two doors down. “We never imagined something like this would happen on our street.”
Authorities have not released the name of the victim, citing ongoing investigations and respect for the family’s privacy. The couple reportedly has two teenage children, who were not home at the time of the attack.
The case has sparked renewed discussions around domestic violence awareness and support resources in Nassau County. Police urge anyone experiencing domestic abuse to reach out for help through hotlines and local shelters.
Morales is due back in court later this week.
