Richmond Couple Faces Serious Charges for Cocaine Distribution and Child Neglect
A Richmond couple is facing multiple felony charges after authorities uncovered evidence of cocaine distribution and child neglect during a recent drug investigation in Wayne County.
According to court records, 34-year-old Marcus Taylor and 29-year-old Jasmine Reed were arrested following a months-long investigation conducted by the Richmond Police Department and the Wayne County Drug Task Force. Officers executed a search warrant at the couple’s residence on South 13th Street, where they reportedly discovered large quantities of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and cash believed to be linked to narcotics sales.
Investigators also found that children were living in the home under unsafe conditions. According to police, drugs and hazardous materials were accessible within areas where the children ate and slept. Child Protective Services were called to the scene, and the children were placed in temporary protective custody.
Taylor has been charged with dealing in cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, maintaining a common nuisance, and neglect of a dependent. Reed faces similar charges, including possession and neglect, for her alleged role in the drug operation.
“This is a serious case not only because of the drug trafficking involved, but because children were directly endangered by the environment they were living in,” said a spokesperson for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Both suspects are being held at the Wayne County Jail on bond, with initial hearings scheduled for later this week. If convicted, they could each face decades in prison due to the severity and combination of the charges.
This case has sparked concern in the Richmond community, where residents are calling for increased efforts to combat both drug trafficking and child endangerment. Law enforcement officials have stated that the investigation remains ongoing and more arrests may follow.
