Little River Church Shooting: Teen Arrested After Two People Shot Near Worship Site
Authorities have taken a teenage suspect into custody following a shooting near a Little River-area church that left two people injured Sunday evening, sparking concern throughout the quiet community.
The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. near the parking lot of a church located off Highway 17, just as evening services were concluding. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing people running for cover as chaos unfolded outside the church grounds.
According to the Horry County Police Department, two individuals — a 17-year-old male and a 21-year-old female — suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both are expected to recover.
Investigators quickly identified a teenage male suspect
Investigators quickly identified a teenage male suspect, who was later located and arrested without incident. His name has not been released due to his age, but officials confirmed he is being held at a juvenile detention facility and is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
While the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, law enforcement officials believe the incident was not random and may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving the victims.
The church where the shooting occurred was not directly involved in the altercation, and no church staff or attendees were harmed. However, the incident has left local residents shaken.
“This kind of violence has no place in our community, especially near places of worship,” said Horry County Police spokesperson Lt. Marcus Ellis. “We are thankful the injuries were not more severe and that the suspect was apprehended quickly.”
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with additional information or video footage of the incident to come forward.
Increased patrols have been added in the area to ensure community safety in the days ahead.
