WNBA Star A’ja Wilson Gets Big Praise from Former Teammate Kate Martin
Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson continues to shine on the court — and now, her leadership is drawing high praise off the court as well. Former University of South Carolina teammate Kate Martin, now a rookie with the Las Vegas Aces, recently shared heartfelt admiration for Wilson’s role as a mentor and team leader.
“A’ja’s the kind of leader you want in your locker room,” Martin said. “She leads by example, but she also knows how to lift people up. She’s vocal when she needs to be, but always positive and focused.”
Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP and Olympic gold medalist, has been a cornerstone of the Aces franchise and a role model for younger players like Martin, who joined the team after being selected in the second round of the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Martin, who played under head coach Dawn Staley alongside Wilson at South Carolina, emphasized how Wilson’s leadership has evolved since college. “She’s more than just an incredible player — she makes everyone around her better,” Martin noted.
The Aces are once again top contenders this season, and Wilson’s influence extends far beyond the stat sheet. From intense practices to team bonding moments, her presence is felt in every aspect of the game.
“She’s someone I’ve always looked up to,” Martin added. “Now getting to share a locker room with her again — it’s a full-circle moment I’ll never forget.”
With leadership like Wilson’s, the Aces are in good hands for another championship run.
