Richmond Woman Dies in I-70 Crash in Wayne County; Passenger Hospitalized
A tragic single-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 in Wayne County, Indiana, claimed the life of 55-year-old Connie Jones from Richmond early Sunday morning. The incident occurred near the 137-mile marker around 1:03 a.m., according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Jones was driving eastbound when her vehicle veered off the road, struck an embankment, and overturned, coming to rest on its roof. She was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, identified as 41-year-old Leovigildo Muniz, also from Richmond, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Muniz reported that the vehicle unexpectedly veered off the road, leading to the crash. The two were returning home after Muniz’s work shift.
The crash led to the closure of eastbound I-70 for approximately three hours as emergency responders cleared the scene and conducted their investigation. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. Authorities have expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Ms. Jones’ family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
