Woman Tragically Run Over on Santa Monica Beach – Family Breaks Silence
Santa Monica, CA — A day at the beach turned into a nightmare after a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle on the sand near the iconic Santa Monica Pier. The heartbreaking incident occurred Saturday afternoon, shocking beachgoers and prompting questions about safety enforcement in the popular tourist area.
According to authorities, the victim, identified as 32-year-old Marissa Torres of Los Angeles, was walking along the beach when she was struck by a maintenance truck reportedly operated by a city contractor. Despite immediate emergency response, Torres was pronounced dead at the scene.
Now, her grieving family is speaking out.
“We’re devastated. Marissa was full of life — she loved the beach, it was her happy place,” said her brother, Daniel Torres. “We can’t understand how something like this could happen in broad daylight, in such a busy, public place.”
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and surreal, with beachgoers rushing to help before emergency crews arrived. Some questioned why a vehicle was driving in an area heavily populated by pedestrians.
Santa Monica city officials said an investigation is underway to determine whether proper safety protocols were followed. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with authorities.
“This is a tragedy that should never have happened,” said local resident and witness, Lisa Hernandez. “There needs to be accountability. Our beaches should be safe.”
Marissa’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and plans to advocate for stricter regulations on beach vehicle access.
“She should still be here,” Daniel added. “We don’t want another family to go through this.”
As the community mourns, city leaders are facing increased pressure to address public safety on the beach — before another life is lost.
