Accidental Discharge: Officer Injured While Rushing to Little River Shooting Scene
A North Myrtle Beach police officer was injured on May 25 after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while responding to a mass shooting in Little River, South Carolina.
According to police, the officer was en route to assist Horry County authorities after reports of a shooting near a party boat event at Harbourgate Marina, close to Little River Neck Road and Sea Mountain Highway. As the officer prepared to deploy a police boat, his service weapon discharged, striking him in the leg. The injury was not life-threatening, and he was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
The main incident, which prompted the emergency response, left 11 people hospitalized—several with gunshot wounds and others injured by a falling speaker during the chaos. Authorities later apprehended a 19-year-old suspect in Illinois. He is expected to face multiple charges, including attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
The North Myrtle Beach Police Department confirmed that an internal investigation into the accidental discharge is underway. Officials have stated that the injured officer is recovering and receiving full departmental support.
