Richmond Gift Shop Horror: Murder Weapon in Motel Killing Purchased Hours Before Attack
Richmond, VA — A seemingly innocent gift shop has become a key location in a chilling murder investigation after police confirmed that the weapon used in a deadly stabbing at the Maggie Motel was purchased there just hours before the attack.
According to authorities, the suspect entered the small Richmond gift shop around 11:45 a.m. on Saturday and purchased a decorative knife described as “collectible” and “ornamental.” Surveillance video captured the individual browsing casually before selecting the item, paying in cash, and leaving without raising suspicion.
Less than six hours later, police were called to the Maggie Motel on the city’s south side, where they discovered the body of a 34-year-old woman in one of the rooms. The victim, whose name has not yet been released pending family notification, had suffered multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives quickly tracked the origin of the weapon based on markings and packaging found at the scene. The gift shop’s transaction records and security footage confirmed the purchase, which investigators now believe was made with intent to kill—or during a moment of emotional volatility.
“This case underscores how quickly a tragedy can unfold,” said Richmond Police spokesperson Lt. Maria Jennings. “What appears to be a spontaneous act of violence has now turned into a homicide investigation with a clearly traceable chain of events.”
The suspect, who was taken into custody Sunday morning, is being held without bond. Charges are expected to be formally filed this week.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the motive behind the attack and are asking anyone with additional information to come forward. The gift shop has since cooperated fully with law enforcement.
