Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly: East Meadow Man Indicted for Murder
East Meadow, NY — A Nassau County grand jury has indicted a 42-year-old East Meadow man on murder charges in connection with the death of his domestic partner, authorities announced Wednesday.
According to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, the incident occurred earlier this month at the couple’s residence on Prospect Avenue. Police responded to a 911 call placed by a neighbor who reported hearing a loud argument followed by a disturbance. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 38-year-old female victim unresponsive with signs of blunt force trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as James Carter, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Investigators believe the attack was the culmination of a pattern of escalating domestic abuse. “This was a senseless and tragic act of violence,” said DA Donnelly. “Our office is committed to pursuing justice for the victim and ensuring accountability for the defendant.”
Carter has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail at the Nassau County Correctional Center. If convicted, he faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
Neighbors expressed shock over the tragedy, describing the couple as quiet but often seen together around the neighborhood. “We never imagined something like this would happen right next door,” said one local resident.
Authorities are urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help. Resources such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) are available 24/7.
Carter is scheduled to appear in court next week. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare their case.
This marks the latest in a string of domestic violence cases that have gripped Long Island communities in recent months, prompting renewed calls for awareness and intervention.
