He Was Acting Bad’: 340-Pound Mom Convicted After Sitting on Son, 10, Causing His Death
An Indiana mother has been convicted in the tragic death of her 10-year-old son after using her body weight as a form of punishment. The 340-pound woman, whose identity has been withheld to protect the child’s remaining family, allegedly sat on her son for an extended period after he “was acting bad,” leading to his suffocation and death.
According to court documents, the incident occurred in early 2024 when the child misbehaved at home. The mother reportedly restrained him by sitting on his chest while shouting that he needed to “learn a lesson.” Despite the boy’s desperate cries and attempts to breathe, she continued the punishment until he became unresponsive.
Emergency services arrived too late to revive the child. An autopsy confirmed that the boy died from mechanical asphyxiation due to chest compression.
During the trial, the defense argued that the act was not intended to kill, but prosecutors described the punishment as cruel and reckless. The jury found the mother guilty of involuntary manslaughter and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Sentencing is scheduled for next month, and she faces up to 40 years in prison. The case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for better child protection awareness.
