Richard Gere’s Wife Alejandra Reveals They Are Already Planning a Return to the U.S.—Just Months After Moving to Spain.
Hollywood heavyweight Richard Gere’s wife, Alejandra Silva, has revealed that she and her spouse already have their sights set on a return to the U.S.—despite relocating to Spain just a few months ago.
The 75-year-old actor first revealed that he and Silva, 42, were planning to quit the U.S. in favor of moving to Europe back in April 2024, explaining that he wanted his wife to have the chance to spend more time with her family and loved ones in her home country.
Just six months later, the couple put those plans into action, selling their Connecticut mansion and moving across the pond with their sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4, as well as Silva’s son, Albert, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Govind Friedland.
Since their big move, Gere has gushed about how much he “loves” their new life—while also slamming the way in which the U.S. has changed under the leadership of President Donald Trump, leading many to suggest that Gere might never return.
However, Silva has now revealed that their move was never meant to be permanent, telling DailyMail.com that they were always planning to spend just a “few years” abroad and were always going to “come back.
As it happens, the couple’s return to the U.S. will actually happen much sooner than anyone expected—with Silva revealing that they will Stateside in the summer so that their children can attend summer camp, having previously shared that they were planning to retain a residence in the New York area even after moving.
“For a few years [we’ll live in Spain], and then come back. But we’re always coming back. We’ll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here,” she said.
Although Silva is happy to be closer to her family, she noted that relocating abroad after six years in the States hasn’t been easy—confessing that she does miss the life she had in the U.S.
“I’m with my family … I missed them a lot,” she added. “But I miss the U.S., so we come back and forth.”
It’s unclear whether Gere has the same fond feelings about his home country, particularly given his recent tirade against Trump and his policies during an appearance at the annual Goya Awards in February.
Although Gere did not point to politics as one of his reasons for wanting to leave the U.S., he held nothing back as he railed against Trump, branding him a “bully and a thug,” and stating that his former home has become a “dark place” under the current administration.
“We’re all part of a universe of overlapping pain and sadness and joy. … I see this world that we’re in now forgetting that,” he said. “This very foolish tribalism is starting to take us over, where we think that we’re all separate from each other.
