Panama City Beach, FL — The Panama City Beach Police Department has arrested two men in connection with the infamous “Panamaniac” spring break event, an annual party that has drawn criticism in recent years for promoting unruly behavior and overwhelming local law enforcement.
Authorities confirmed the arrests on Monday, naming the individuals as primary organizers behind the large-scale party promotion, which has frequently been linked to public safety issues, overcrowding, and illegal activity.
According to officials, the two men—whose identities have not yet been released—played key roles in organizing and promoting this year’s Panamaniac festivities. Law enforcement alleges that the pair used social media and other platforms to attract thousands of partygoers to Panama City Beach without the appropriate permits or coordination with local authorities.
Police Chief J.R. Talamantez stated during a press conference that the arrests were the result of a multi-week investigation involving multiple agencies. “We’re sending a clear message: if you promote or organize unauthorized events that put our community at risk, you will be held accountable,” Talamantez said. “This is about protecting our residents, our tourists, and our reputation as a family-friendly destination.”
Panamaniac has long been a controversial event in Panama City Beach. Originally marketed as a college spring break party series, it ballooned into a chaotic celebration that has, at times, overwhelmed law enforcement and emergency services. While it drew thousands of visitors, local officials argue the costs to public safety, infrastructure, and the city’s image far outweighed the benefits.
“This is not about punishing people for having fun,” Talamantez added. “This is about stopping those who profit off mayhem, who create events without any regard for the safety or legal requirements of the city.”
Investigators say the men failed to apply for event permits, neglected to hire adequate security, and actively misled potential attendees about the event’s official standing. As a result, multiple violations were committed, ranging from inciting unlawful assembly to failing to comply with city ordinances related to commercial promotions.
