Little River woman gets 10 years for North Myrtle Beach DUI crash that killed Longs man, injured his wife and 3 kids.
A Little River woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to felony DUI in the death of a Longs man in June 2023.
Nancy Bishop, 63, pleaded guilty to felony driving under the influence with death in the Father’s Day weekend crash in North Myrtle Beach that killed Thomas Brown, 41. She was sentenced by Horry County Circuit Court Judge David P. Caraker.
Bishop must serve at least 85% of the sentence before she is eligible for release, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. She could have received up to 25 years in prison.
Authorities said Bishop was going west on the Robert Edge Parkway Bridge when her Lexus swerved across the centerline and collided head-on with Brown’s Nissan. Bishop’s car landed on top of Brown’s, and Bishop and Brown’s wife and three children were taken to the hospital.
Brown’s widow, Ana, told News13 last June that the family had been out celebrating Father’s Day at a local park before going to dinner.
Police said Bishop had a blood alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit. In addition, while conducting an inventory of Bishop’s vehicle before it was towed away, officers found an open container of wine along with a cup in the cupholder that contained a liquid “consistent with the contents of the wine bottle.”
Later, while out of jail on bond after the crash, Bishop was returned to jail last October after authorities said she violated home detention by having bottles of alcohol in her home.
In February 2023, Ana Brown received a $175,000 settlement from a wrongful death suit filed against Bishop.
