North Myrtle Beach Faces King Tides in Few Days: A Call to Action for Residents and Visitors.
North Myrtle Beach warns of expected King Tides this weekend
The City of North Myrtle Beach wants residents and visitors to be aware of expected King Tides this weekend.
The city said the tides are expected Friday through Tuesday, peaking between Sunday and Monday. King Tides can cause flooding in low-lying areas of the coast.
North Myrtle Beach officials are encouraging those owning homes or property in flood-prone areas to secure outdoor furniture, garbage cans and other loose items to prevent them from being carried away or damaged.
“Residents and visitors should anticipate typical King Tide impacts in the area,” the city said in an advisory. “While some side streets may experience water over the roadway, widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time, based on current forecasts.”
Officials also said crews have been preparing flooded street signage for the Cherry Grove area and will have a crew on standby on Sunday. Drivers are asked to avoid flooded streets and those blocked by barricades or cones.
