Richmond Family Mourns Man Killed During Violent Home Break-In
Tragedy struck a Richmond neighborhood late Thursday when a man was fatally shot during a home invasion, leaving his family and community in shock. Police were called to the 500 block of Maplewood Avenue shortly before midnight following reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Jamal Rivers with serious gunshot injuries. Despite emergency efforts, he died at the scene. Rivers, described by loved ones as a devoted father and caring neighbor, leaves behind two children.
“This shouldn’t have happened,” his sister, Tasha, said emotionally. “He was just at home with his babies.”
Authorities suspect the incident was a targeted break-in. No arrests have been made, and investigators continue to search for leads, including reviewing local security footage and interviewing witnesses.
Police are calling on the public to assist with any information. A vigil now grows outside Rivers’ home, honoring his memory amid calls for justice.
