The legend of the Blind Pilgrim and the Little Templar Witch Meiguinha
On the ancient paths of O Cebreiro, where the mists embrace the mountains and the echo of the pilgrims’ footsteps resounds in the air, there lived a blind pilgrim called Ezequiel. Though his vision was dark, his heart shone with the light of faith. Every day, he walked the Camino de Santiago, guided by his cane and his sharp instinct.
One morning, as he walked up a mossy trail, Ezekiel felt a strange vibration in the ground. Suddenly, a soft feminine laughter enveloped him. It was Meiguiña, a little Templar witch who lived in a small forest nearby. He knew the secrets of the place and had ancient knowledge about the Celtic coins that had been hidden by the ancient Druids.
— Ezequiel — said Meiguinha in a melodious voice —, I was waiting for your arrival. I saw your courage and dedication to the path. I want to offer you something special.
Intrigued, the pilgrim asked: – What are you offering me?
Meiguinha told him about Celtic coins, which had the power to grant a wish to whoever possessed them. However, there was a price: it had to be used wisely and never for personal benefit.
Ezequiel accepted the offer and, guided by Meiguiña’s voice, found a small chest buried beneath an ancient oak tree. Inside were several shiny coins, each engraved with celestial symbols.
With gratitude in his heart, Ezekiel decided to use his desire to help other pilgrims who were lost or discouraged along their way. As he progressed on his journey, every time he helped someone in need, a coin would disappear from the vault.
The news of the blind pilgrim’s altruism reached the ears of the little Templar witch Meiguiña. She smiled from her enchanted forest as she watched Ezekiel light the path of others with his selfless actions.
Finally, Ezequiel arrived in Santiago de Compostela without having used all the coins. When he arrived at the cathedral, he realized that the most valuable thing was not the coins nor the wish that had been granted; it was the connection he had created with each person along the way.
At that moment, he realized that he was destined to be much more than just a blind pilgrim; had become a beacon of hope for many.
And so, the legend of the blind pilgrim and the Templar witch Meiguiña has endured over the years in O Cebreiro, reminding everyone that true light is not found in physical vision, but in the love and kindness shared between human beings.
