10 Most Controversial Married at First Sight Couples (& Where They Are Now)
Married at First Sight, sometimes better known as MAFS, has turned the world of reality TV on its head. The show features a series of couples who have been matched up by a team of relationship experts. As they prepare to marry a stranger, the couples must learn to overcome their honeymoon phase to see if they are actually compatible.
While some of the couples are perfectly suited and go on to live happily ever after, there are a handful of them that crash and burn. As such, fans quickly fell in love with this series because, although it has quite a sweet premise, the show is teeming with drama. Therefore, some of the show’s memorable couples are the ones who aren’t exactly made for each other.
When Lauren and Elliot first appeared on MAFS AUS in Season 12, they seemed to be the ideal pair. Both of them had a very traditional idea of romance and also had very high standards. Yet, it seemed that Eliot wasn’t that pleased with his new bride because he left her after just two days. The husband was turned off by the fact that Lauren only wanted one child and felt her love of designer goods was a tad fickle. Thus, he packed his bags and said goodbye.
Reality TV Is Far Older Than Most People Know
While their break-up was a shock, the pair returned to the show as intruders later on in the series. Thus, they are set to be paired up with new partners by the experts, essentially giving them a second chance at the experiment. Since this series is still in progress, fans will have to wait and see what happens to this conservative couple.
This Couple Tried but Just Couldn’t Make Things Work
First appearing in Season 13, Jose and Rachel managed to repair their marriage and actually started a proper relationship after the show. While this may seem adorable, fans of MAFS will know that they were never really meant to be. On the one hand, Jose was a perfectionist and worried about Rachel’s improper habits. In contrast, Rachel dropped a bombshell when she accidentally called her new husband by her ex’s name, which caused a lot of tension.
The pair split shortly after the reunion and believed that going their separate ways would be the best decision for their futures. Since leaving the show, Jose has been hard at work as a NASA Mission Flight Specialist and Rachel has been busy traveling to an abundance of exotic locations. Yet, since the pair no longer follow each other on Instagram, it’s assumed that they have cut contact.

This Pair Enjoyed a Successful Swap
When Jacqui first joined MAFS she was paired with Ryan, a project manager from NSW. While their bond was nothing to write home about, fans were shocked when Jacqui announced that she had started dating fellow contestant Clint. It seemed that her co-star slid into her DMs during filming and the pair seemed to hit it off.
While Ryan was obviously pretty upset, certain fans will be pleased to hear that Clint and Jacqui are still going strong. She also seems to enjoy teasing the producers by posting photos of herself inside her new man’s house and highlighting the show’s behind-the-scenes secrets. As such, Clint and Jacqui’s relationship proves that the experiment does work, just not in the way that fans would expect.

This Husband Was Reminded of His Sister
A lot of fans thought that Emma and Caspar were very well-suited. They had very similar interests and came from very similar backgrounds, both of which are usually the building blocks of a good relationship. Yet, Caspar instantly felt that Emma wasn’t his type, mostly because she reminded him of her sister. In the beginning, he also made a few comments about her weight which were honest, but some felt they were a tad unnecessary.
The pair managed to work things out throughout the show and quickly decided that they would be better off as friends rather than as husband and wife. Yet, Emma later revealed that the pair had lost touch since the show wrapped up. However, she also revealed that she would love to rebuild their friendship and the door would always be open to him.

This Couple Was Kicked Off of the Show Entirely
After countless episodes and numerous spin-offs, audiences would assume that nothing could phase these experts. However, David and Haley floored audiences with their toxic spats and unusual dynamics. After Haley shared a kiss with fellow contestant Michael, David retaliated by dunking his wife’s toothbrush into the toilet. So, after an expletive-filled rant during the commitment ceremony, expert John Aiken forced them to leave the experiment.
The marriages on MAFS are not legally binding and are seen more as a social experiment.
It comes as no surprise that the couple are no longer together and do not remain in contact. David has even gone on to say that he regrets taking part in the show. Even though they made history by being the first couple to be booted off of the show, it appears that they have since left the world of reality TV behind them.

The Bride Went Back to Her Ex
It was obvious from the start that Rebecca and Jake weren’t exactly the best examples of love at first sight. She found him a tad too laid back, and his family worried that she would be a bit difficult. However, the pair pushed through and surprisingly left the show as a married couple.
However, just a short while after the show wrapped, footage emerged of Rebecca snogging her ex, forcing the pair to go their separate ways. Fortunately, both contestants have had success on the dating scene since leaving the show. Rebecca has formed a long-term relationship with a man named Ben, and Jake dated a popular fitness influencer for a short while.

One Partner Had an Inappropriate Relationship With a Producer
While Becca and Austin said yes on Decision Day, there is no denying that their relationship was teeming with issues. The pair would constantly bicker about trivial issues and refused to see eye to eye on more taboo topics such as sex and intimacy. But the real bombshell was that Austin engaged in a relationship with a producer on the show, making their split even more dramatic.
Both parties are on social media but seem to keep their personal lives out of the public eye. Since Austin’s Instagram account is private, there is no way of knowing his relationship status, but there were rumors that he was dating his roommate. Overall, Becca and Austin may not have had the whirlwind romance they both hoped for, but their time on the show was unforgettable.

A Fan-Favorite Couple Broke Things off in a Troublesome Way
While the other couples were at each other’s throats, Ross and Sacha started Season 9 on the right foot. Yet, after the show finished, Sacha revealed that her husband dumped her via text. In fact, as soon as the show stopped airing, the pair went on to reveal their new partners just hours after each other. The pair do not mention or follow each other on social media, so it’s assumed that they have left that chapter in the past.
