Arson suspected in fire at Maggie Valley dance hall; person of interest identified
A fire broke out at the Stompin’ Ground dance hall on Soco Road in Maggie Valley on Friday, Dec. 27.
The blaze was reported around 2:22 p.m., prompting a swift response from Maggie Valley Fire and Rescue, as well as mutual aid teams.
The fire, which burned at the front of the building, was quickly extinguished with minimal damage to the structure, according to a joint release from the Maggie Valley Police Department and Maggie Valley Fire and Rescue.
Authorities suspect arson as the cause of the fire and a person of interest has been identified, per the release.
The Maggie Valley Police Department is leading the investigation, collaborating with the Haywood County Fire Marshal and state authorities.
