Fugitive arrested in Richmond grocery store, charged with resisting.
A man wanted across the nation was arrested in Wayne County on Thursday.
According to a Richmond Police Department spokesperson, officers responded to a grocery store after getting a tip of the whereabouts of a man with a nationwide extradition warrant for a parole violation.
Michael Eggers, 37, was taken into custody without incident, but while being transported, Eggers became “increasingly erratic and violent.”
The spokesperson said that Eggers was taken to Reid Hospital for evaluation because of his behavior. He was cleared and taken to the Wayne County Jail on charges related to the existing arrest warrant.
An additional charge was placed on Eggers due to his alleged acts of resisting arrest.
Richmond Police Department Assistant Chief Adam Blanton emphasized the importance of teamwork in situations like these.
“Interagency cooperation is crucial. By working together with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, we were able to act quickly and ensure a wanted individual was taken into custody without further risk to the public,” Assistant Chief Blanton said. “This kind of teamwork is what keeps our community safe.”
