A missing woman from Wayne County was found dead in a creek three days after a crash.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said Lorena Scott, 59, was last seen around 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024.
Shortly after, police said they found her vehicle, a gold Chevrolet Malibu, crashed on New Paris Pike, near Mid Drive, but Scott wasn’t inside.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said an initial area search, involving multiple officers and a drone team, was made, but they didn’t find her in the area.
Police said they launched an “extensive investigation” into her disappearance, where they interviewed family members, reviewed security camera footage, financial records, etc.
Without any leads, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said they expanded the search.
On the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 3, police said additional search efforts were conducted, with officers from the Indiana DNR and their drone team, as well as the Richmond Fire Department and their drone team.
Scott was then found dead in a creek more than a quarter-mile east of where her Malibu crashed on New Paris Pike.
The cause of death has yet to be determined, but foul play is not suspected, police said.
“We extend out deepest condolences to Mrs. Scott’s family and loved ones during this difficult time and ask the community to respect their privacy as they grieve this tragic loss,” the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on social media.
