Mother and Child killed, driver arrested, in single-vehicle crash in Wayne County today
A Big Prairie woman and child were killed in a single-vehicle accident in East Union Township in Wayne County early Sunday morning.
Hannah Eve Baird, 25, was killed after the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty pick-up she was in lost control on the icy roadway going eastbound on Hackett Road. Local responders from the Apple Creek, East Union Twp. Fire Department transported Baird to Wooster Community Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The driver, 22, of Washington Court House in Ohio, was arrested for OVI, according to Sgt. Rob Gable, assistant post commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wooster Post. He received minor injuries but reported he was uninjured.
A second passenger in the vehicle, a 24-year-old woman, was uninjured, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wooster Post. None of the three in the vehicle were wearing seat belts.
The Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was contacted at around 12:29 a.m. about a vehicle crash. According to the responding troopers, the pick-up had rotated off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned onto its right side.
Alcohol was a factor in the crash. The actions and the events that led to the death of Baird remain under investigation, with further charges pending.
In addition to the fire department, troopers were assisted on the scene by personnel from Apple Creek Police, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and Three Son’s Towing & Recovery.
This is the first fatal crash in Wayne County in 2025, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
