Memorial Day, when we highlight a line-of-duty death from this date in history.
Today we remember Patrolman Kenneth Reid Lester from the Richmond Police Department, who was involved in an on-duty automobile crash while responding to a burglary call and sustained debilitating injuries. Patrolman Lester crashed into a semi-tractor trailer that turned in front of him while responding to the call. Patrolman Lester suffered a ruptured aorta, a leg injury, and a pelvic fracture. During the surgery for the ruptured aorta, he went into cardiac arrest losing oxygen to the brain causing a traumatic brain injury which required rehabilitative care.
Please consider supporting us in our mission to honor the more than 24,000 law enforcement heroes whose names adorn our sacred memorial, including Patrolman Lester who died on February 10, 2020.
