Malachi Fields Is Named As Notre Dame’s Top Portal Pickup
ESPN believes that wide receiver Malachi Fields is the top portal pickup for Notre Dame in the 2025 cycle
Notre Dame has used the transfer portal quite well in recent seasons as the program looks to use it to fill important needs. The Irish aren’t alone, and the portal is something all programs use to some degree to build their rosters. The Irish hit the portal again this offseason, landing key pickups at wide receiver, defensive tackle and in the secondary among other spots.
Notre Dame needed an impact receiver in the 2025 portal cycle as the Irish look to add more to their pass game. Notre Dame’s rushing offense was one of the best in the nation in 2024, wish the Irish rushing for 200.9 yards per game and racking up 45 touchdowns. The ground game was a key factor in the run to the national championship game.
The one thing they were lacking was a consistent passing attack. With new a new starting quarterback in the fall, and boundary receiver Beaux Collins headed to the NFL Draft, Noter Dame needed a big bodied, athletic receiver that could be a playmaker in the boundary.
