Police catch alleged mail thief hiding in Wayne County dumpster.
Man allegedly stole mail from several Livonia residents
A man accused of stealing mail from residents in a Wayne County neighborhood was arrested after authorities found him hiding in a dumpster.
Police say mail was stolen from several Livonia residents during the early morning hours on Jan. 21 and Jan. 22.
Witnesses told police they believed the suspect had been driving a black Chevrolet Malibu.
On Jan. 23, a Livonia officer was canvassing for video in a subdivision when he saw a car that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Police say a sergeant tried to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver fled.
After that, the driver allegedly lost control, exited the vehicle and ran away.
Police say they found several pieces of evidence in the suspect vehicle that connected Walik-Rasool to the mail theft.
He was arraigned on the charges of fleeing and eluding police, obstructing/resisting arrest and five counts of mail theft.
Walik-Rasool was given a $10,000 cash/surety bond and his next court hearing is set for Feb. 27.
