Norman Community grieves for Gretna’s Gauthreaux family after second tragedy of 2025
The Gauthreaux family of Gretna, Louisiana, is enduring an unimaginable series of tragedies in 2025. Just weeks after the devastating loss of their grandson, Hubert Gauthreaux III, in a terror attack on Bourbon Street, the family has been struck by another calamity. On Saturday evening, February 15, 2025, Hubert’s grandparents, Victoria and Hubert Sr. Gauthreaux, were killed in a high-speed collision involving an alleged impaired driver in downtown Gretna.
The incident occurred when 33-year-old Stephan Juarez, driving a 2015 GMC truck at excessive speed, crossed the center line on the 700 block of Fourth Street. He collided with a westbound 2011 GMC Yukon, causing minor injuries to its driver and two passengers. Juarez continued eastbound, striking a parked 2022 Honda Pilot before veering into oncoming traffic. He then left the roadway and crashed head-on into a parked 2020 Volvo XC9, where Hubert and Victoria were seated. Both sustained fatal injuries and were transported to University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Juarez, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide, reckless operation, second offense DWI, driving with a suspended license, and possession of marijuana. The crash remains under investigation.
This tragedy compounds the family’s grief following the loss of their grandson, Hubert Gauthreaux III, who was killed in a terror attack on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Day. The community has rallied around the Gauthreaux family, offering support and condolences during this challenging time. Gretna Mayor Belinda C. Constant expressed the city’s collective sorrow, stating, “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of Hubert Sr. and Victoria Gauthreaux… Our entire Gretna community stands with the Gauthreaux family.”
The Gauthreaux family’s resilience in the face of such profound loss serves as a testament to their strength and the unwavering support of their community.
