Richmond woman who went missing after car accident found dead in creek Tuesday morning
A 59-year-old Richmond woman who went missing after a car accident over the weekend has been found deceased.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department said in a release that Lorena Scott was found early Tuesday morning in a creek adjacent to large culvert more than a 1/4 mile east of where her vehicle was located on New Paris Pike.
Scott was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday, and when officers and a drone team arrived, she could not be found.
An extensive investigation continued, which included “a collaboration with the New Paris Police Department, interviews with family members, reviewing for security camera footage, financial records, as well as significant media coverage and community support.”
After still failing to locate her, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department intensified its search Tuesday morning by receiving assistance from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Richmond Fire Department Drone Team, leading to Scott’s discovery.
“The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough investigation and coordinated with multiple agencies to pursue every possible lead,” the release said.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Scott’s family and loved ones during this difficult time and ask the community to respect their privacy as they grieve this tragic loss.”
A cause of death has not yet been determined and is still being investigated, but foul play is not suspected.
